many the miles.

There's too many things that I haven't done yet
Too many sunsets
I haven't seen
You can't waste the day wishing it'd slow down
You would've thought by now
I'd have learned something.

Mind vs. Heart

Your mind and heart are a funny combo.; sometimes they're on the same team and sometimes they're playing tug of war. I've come to realize that this is especially true when playing in the game of love (yes cheesy but go with it). You're mind tells you to to move on while your heart says hang on, but the difficulty in this is which do you choose to follow? You know the consequences of both fates but yet cannot make a decision. Well, I've made that decision and the winner was the mind. What I've realized is that the heart eventually is wounded but will follow in time (it just needs a Band-Aid or two). Eventually the two meet on common ground and start working for the same cause--your happiness. Once the war is over, peace erupts and (the person) is independent, stable and most of all happy. As more and more time passes, a scab forms and starts to heal and eventually disappears until there isn't any proof it was even there at all. The next step is waiting for it to happen all over again...

the secret power of giving back.

I hate to admit it but I was skimming the latest issue of Seventeen magazine tonight and came across this article by Maya Angelou. She says, "Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud". She talks about reaching out and making someone's day by giving them a compliment or saying 'Good morning!" to someone. It's these little gestures that can make a difference in someone's day or even life...

We've been told, "It's often more blessed to give than to receive." And it might sound strange, but the truth is, the person who receives gets the thing, but the person who gives gets the bigger blessing--your heart expands. If you do that, I promise you, you will never be the same.
It's really very simple. To me, charity means, "I have more than I need, and you seem to have less than you need. Please accept some of my overflow." It can be a smile, it can be a pat on the back--it may be just saying "Good morning!" to someone, or "You know, that's a beautiful color on you." You have no idea if that person has just hung up the phone from having a nurse say, "Well, we were wrong. The test is positive." You never know. Having a charitable heart can be even more powerful than giving money.
Young women can be so involved with themselves, sometimes you don't see that there is a bigger world out there. You might think, No one understands me. You are still being formed as a woman, so try to have patience with yourself. That's how you can be charitable to yourself.
The secret to getting through it all isn't to look inward--it's looking outward. Collect magazines from your house, cut the address off, take them to the hospital, and say, "I have one hour a week, and I could read to some children, if you like." You have no idea how much that will affect you. It makes you feel good because it made someone else feel better. It reminds you that you are not the only person here on this plain and on this planet.
It's important to constantly ask yourself to do more than you've done before--try to stretch! Not just physically--stretch your mind! If you are a B student, stretch yourself to get an A. If you are an A student, help somebody else to get an A! Try to reach for something that is almost unattainable, and if you stretch a little more, you can reach it.
Finding what makes you you is truly the best way to help people in this world. When you do, you begin understand that human beings are more alike than we are unalike. You realize that what makes you weep is the same thing that makes another person weep. You can't just say, "Oh, I don't understand this person." You do understand, and you have a responsibility. You have one to yourself and one to your fellow human being. And once you know that, I think you're more ready to be of help.
Start by finding something about yourself that is nice. Now if you have beautiful hair, that's good. If you have a nice figure, that's good, but try to find something inside yourself  you really like. You may have a good sense of humor, or you may be kind to children. Try to find something that you already are--not that you wish to be. Whatever it is, find it and put it around your neck like a necklace, like a string of pearls. That will make you shine!

Joy,
Maya Angelou

Unrealistic Expectations

When I'm finally alone after wanting to be alone for such a long time, it's not what I expected. I thought that all I wanted to do was have fun and live in the moment, but it's not all its cracked up to be. Bars and clubs are filled with guys grinding up on half-naked, trashed girls and all I can do is laugh. I mean don't get me wrong I like to go out and have a good time but to a certain extent. I feel like I'm a 30 year old trapped in a 21 year old body sometimes; all I want to do is to meet an interesting, charming, and funny guy. I watch these romantic comedies (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Made of Honor, P.S. I Love You) and just melt because I don't know if there are guys like that out there or if I'm just setting very unrealistic expectations. I'm ready to move on and get my own apartment, graduate college, get a job and have a serious relationship. Maybe I have to snap out of it and learn to have fun for a little while longer...

Peace out Fall.

Autumn, fall whatever you like to call it, is by far my favorite season. There's nothing like it: warm apple cider, lightweight jackets and jeans, pumpkin picking and crisp air. Rhode Island has the best foliage too! I drove down Ministerial Road the other day and I felt like I was in a different world for the 2 minutes I was on the road. You're secluded from the town and are surrounded by thousands of bright colorful leaves of red, yellow, oranges and browns. One thing that I don't enjoy is once Halloween comes because that means peace out fall and hello winter. I'll just have to deal for now and enjoy it while it's here!!
